Alfa Romeo GT junior 1.3

This Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1.3 was purchased from a private owner who had kept it for over 20 years.

Finished in Pine Green (Verde Pino) with a wild boar-colored leatherette interior (color cinghiale), the car still features its original and well-preserved seats. The headliner is in excellent condition, and the engine is period-correct. The exterior and interior color combination matches the Certificate of Origin, which will be provided along with the car’s original first-issue documents. Manufactured in 1970.

Restoration Works Performed:

After owning the GT for about a year, we decided to completely rebuild the engine. The presence of blue exhaust smoke suggested that oil was leaking into the combustion chamber, and excessive vibrations were coming from the engine block and drivetrain. Upon stripping the engine, our concerns were confirmed: while the pistons were in good condition, the liners, piston rings, and the main and rod bearings had clearly reached the end of their lifespan.

All friction-prone components were sent to a specialized machine shop. First, we performed an X-ray inspection of the crankshaft to ensure it was intact and free of cracks. Once cleared, we proceeded with the first undersize grinding. We then sourced new main and rod bearings, followed by line boring to perfectly align the main bearing caps, bearings, and crankshaft. After this stage, we applied a nitriding treatment to the machined surfaces to restore surface hardness and durability. We weighed the connecting rods and pistons, and balanced the crankshaft together with the flywheel and propeller shaft, correcting imbalances that had previously caused vibrations.

Back at our workshop, the engine was meticulously reassembled, replacing all oil seals, timing chains, gaskets, and bearings. The gearbox underwent the same treatment: it was opened and fully overhauled, replacing all bearings and oil seals to ensure smooth operation and eliminate any dragging noise.

Before reinstalling the mechanical components, we inspected the undercarriage. The old underbody protection did not match the car’s exterior color; therefore, we removed it, checked for any signs of rust, and reapplied a new protective coating in the correct period-accurate shade.

The bodywork was professionally polished. Minor dents were removed by specialized “PDR” (Paintless Dent Repair) technicians using precision rods, achieving a high-quality aesthetic result.

We replaced the tires and also sandblasted and repainted the wheels, as their previous finish did not meet original standards.

After checking the brakes, suspension, and steering, we completed the project with an extensive road test and a formal vehicle inspection (Revisione) to certify the quality of the work.

The car is available at our workshop, Cacciani Restauro Auto d’Epoca in Cupramontana. We invite you to inspect the vehicle on a lift to view the undercarriage, perform a test drive, and review the invoices for the replacement parts as well as the full photographic documentation of the restoration stages mentioned above.
